Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra
« Posted: 17 Oct 2017, 17:37:21 »
Fans of acoustic music take note; on Saturday, November 4th, King’s Cliffe Memorial Hall will host a concert featuring some of the finest young (and not so young) musicians on the UK folk scene, to celebrate the release of an international album with a distinctly local twist.
Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra, featuring rising stars from as far afield as the Outer Hebrides and the tip of Cornwall, recorded their latest album, D’rect from the Shire, live in concert last year, at Northamptonshire’s now legendary concert series, The Sofa Sessions and in our very own village hall. The album will be officially released in London on November 6th, but Jez, who grew up (to a certain extent) in Cliffe, thought it only fitting to return to the scene of its inception and put on a local concert.
The band will perform a wide repertoire of tunes, from celtic to tango, and a selection of poignant songs to soothe the soul, served with a healthy dose of wit and even the odd bit of wisdom.
Featuring Hellard’s sonorous voice, deft guitar-picking and simply stunning harmonica playing, two virtuoso violinists (one Scots, one Irish - be prepared for a wee bit of competition), uilleann pipes, accordion and one of the most captivating double-bassists you’re likely to witness, Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra have performed all over the world, from Glastonbury Festival to the North Country Fair, New York to Taipei, Istanbul to the Iberian Peninsular.
Award-winning craft brewer King’s Cliffe Brewery will be providing a full bar, so for anyone worried about food miles, this produce will have only travelled a matter of yards.  Tickets are available from King's Cliffe Post Office, or if you prefer to buy online, email
