Wildplaces - November Workparty
« Posted: 01 Nov 2016, 15:03:24 »
Big call out for 10.30am on Sunday 13th November.
Meet at the top of Oak Lane - on The Common

We have negotiated with Persimmon to carry out scrub clearance on The Common. This is the open area above Oak Lane, next to the railway cutting.
While the land is likely to be coming to the Parish Council at some point, the danger is that without some intervention this autumn/winter it will be too overgrown to be manageable without contractors and associated costs.
It is potentially a really valuable wildlife site, with plenty of native flowers, mixture of cover and lots of anthills (very important; but all will be lost if it becomes unmanageable.

So.... we will be removing as much of the first/second year growth of hawthorn, blackthorn and dog rose as possible.
We need a GOOD TURNOUT please. There is a large area to cover..

Tools etc -
Slashers, billhooks etc
GLOVES - it will be thorny stuff !!
Good boots or wellies. The ground is very rough in places.

If we collect enough brash we may have a bonfire as well.

Attached is a map of the area showing where we will be focussing - zones 1, 2 and 3 in that order.
Please let me know if you're coming.

If we can get the power scythe at KCA working in time, I might do an initial run over the some of the area, but no guarantees on that!

Thanks for your support.
