When the parish council acquired the allotments more than 20 years ago they were talking about installing water to said allotments. Are they still talking?

We explored this a couple of years back (mains supply/bore hole) and the allotment holders were polled to see if they wanted it.

The majority said no so the plans were abandoned.

How about a handpump to draw water from the Willowbrook ;)

That was considered... but the PC doesn't own the land twixt the allotments and the brook so doesn't have a 'riparian' right to extract water (if such a right could be taken as including allotments in 'domestic use'; if not an extraction license would have been needed).

At the time the favorite options were a bore hole (suprisingly deep and therefore expensive) or mains supply with some kind of keycard meter and a, modest, standing charge.

But it was all to no avail as the allotment holders didn't want it. People seem to catch rainwater, bring water from home, walk down to the brook with a bucket or rely on the British summer weather :(

I'd probably favour the Archimedes screw, or camels transporting barrels   8)

Or Bees? Bees fetch water back to the colony so we'd only need <gets out calculator and presses lots of buttons involving the tare weight of an average British bee, amount of water needed etc>... about 10^23 colonys or 2,428,828,636 square miles of hives... hmmm... maybe this needs a bit more thought :)
