what is going on at KCA - just football?

What’s happening at Kings Cliffe Active?
You probably all know that Kings Cliffe United use the two football pitches at Kings Cliffe Active. There is football training for KCUFC on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and four other local clubs have practice sessions. Kids’ sessions are on Saturday mornings.
But what else is going on besides football?
Rush Hockey, introduced this year, is played on a smaller pitch than field hockey and has fewer rules. It has been a big hit with players, male and female from 11 to 60-odd years old. Sticks can be supplied and any trainers are suitable for the state-of- the-art floodlight multi-use games area (MUGA). Even if you have not played for 30 years, or never tried it, it is great fun and a sociable way to keep fit. Evening sessions restart soon – contact Simon Fairhall at or text to 07767 390516 about hockey. Also contact Simon if you are interested in table tennis – especially if you have some time to help get a group started.
KCA is NOT only about sport. There is a growing range of facilities and events for all ages. The KC Heritage Society meets there as does the KC Garden Society. From this month (March) there will be monthly meetings for Alzheimer’s sufferers and their carers organised by Northamptonshire Alzheimer’s Society – see notices in shops for dates. And Mike Herring is planning to start soon an ‘Old Blokes Club’ (provisional name) based at the Club House at KCA.
“There are lots of events and coffee mornings for women, but very little for senior men like me,” says Mike. The plan is to meet on Wednesday mornings for coffee, reading the papers and to share knowledge on anything from how to use a mobile phones to making a tenon joint. Each week one bloke who wants to learn to cook will make lunch supervised by another bloke who knows what he is doing. Don’t tell them but I hope to recruit some of this group to help with maintenance at KCA and doing other odd jobs in the community!”
Grant applications are being made to further extend the facilities for able bodied and disabled at Kings Cliffe Active. Ideas for more activities are invited from the whole community. Contact Mike Herring about the Old Blokes Club and with any other questions about Kings Cliffe Active – 470 753.
Finally Mike would appreciate some help with running the site, clubhouse and bookings. If you can spare some time – get in touch.
